Background
The Department of State Growth invited feedback from the community in June/July 2019 on a concept design to improve safety at the intersection. The Department has considered your feedback, consulted with Kingborough and Huon Valley Councils, industry owners and key stakeholders to develop a new concept design.
We are seeking your feedback on this revised concept design, which will improve road safety, freight transport movements, and provide safer bus movements at the intersection. The design also features improved parking and pedestrian facilities to enhance access to the bus stops.
Proposed works
Features of the revised concept design include:
Funding
The new design is funded by the Australian Government ($5 million), and the Tasmanian Government ($2 million).
Timing
If the community supports the new design, the Department will proceed with the project, with construction planned for the 2021-22 summer season.
A grade separated solution similar to the nearby Summerleas Road Intersection is not a viable alternative in this location due to topography, costs, and impact to local residents and businesses.
If the new design is not supported by the community, the intersection will remain in its current form and the safety upgrade will not proceed.
